George and Martha have just returned from a faculty party.
It’s late, but at Martha’s insistence a young couple, their neighbors, have come over for a card game. George has been digging and thumping all day and is tired and deeply ashamed. Martha taunts him ruthlessly. George brandishes a carrot, laughs apologetically, then eats the carrot, suddenly noticing that Martha’s naked, that she's always been naked. The neighbors excuse themselves, go outside, and do their business in the flower bed.

The death of Eddie, inventor of "tire" and "postal service"
His friend Troy, inventor of "fire" and "fire safety," saw it all. Unfortunately the only warning that came to Troy's mind was "Stop, Drop, and Roll," but like anything out of Troy's mouth it came out as "hugg . . . hugg . . . hugg. . . "
Later that evening Troy invented "drinking goat water to excess" and "clubbing oneself over the head until unconscious." He was never the same affectionate bon vivant again.
